What is Matic?

MATIC is the native token of the Polygon network and it is used to carry out the key functions of the network. Some of these key functions are:

  • Staking: Users can lock their Matic tokens to support the security of the Polygon Network.

  • Gas token: Users need to pay a small amount of Matic tokens to execute transactions on the Matic Network. This gets collected by the protocol and and shared with stakers.

  • Governance: As a delegator on the Matic network, you as a delegator entrust the validators with your governance rights. You cannot vote for proposals yourself, so make sure your validator takes part in these votes.
